30 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | September/October 2023 YOU SHOULD KNOW MENTORSHIP PROGRAM HELPS NEW EMPLOYEES AT DAVEY A new mentorship program helps Davey employees find a mentor and adjust to life at Davey. The mentorship program launched as part of the Davey Onboarding Experience, which is designed to increase employee retention by focusing on an employee's first 90 days with the company. "The mentorship program is designed to help new hires coming into Davey get adjusted to the team, start them on their learning path, and give them a sense of belonging and connection to their team," said Valeriya Botvinik, talent development specialist, talent development department. "A mentor is someone who steps up as a friend, partner and trainer, someone who encompasses all those things to help new hires assimilate to the team and feel prepared for the challenges of their new role." The Davey Onboarding Experience is companywide. Currently, many Residential/Commercial (R/C) services operations are using the mentorship program. More than 100 Davey employees are currently identified as mentors. The goal that the mentor is working toward along with their mentee is to help guide them through some pieces of the STUDY FOR THE ISA CERTIFIED ARBORIST EXAM DaveyConnect recently launched the Certified Arborist Category for employees studying for the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist Exam. The category includes discussion boards related to each chapter of the exam so you can ask questions you come across in your studies, and answer questions you know the answer to. An employee onboarding experience, as well as some of the on-the-job training new hires get. Talent Development provides a guide to give to managers for selecting a mentor to help them know what qualities will make a good mentor and what support they can provide to a mentor. Mentors also receive a guide explaining expectations, and providing tips and activities for structuring the mentor/mentee relationship. Mentors receive tools and support to help them navigate their mentor/mentee relationship, balance their own workload, find check-in points of conversation daily early in a new hire's career, and other resources. New employees who are interested in finding a mentor can ask their managers for more information. Katrina Baltes, senior manager, talent development, said tools and resources provided to operations managers will help them to facilitate the mentorship program within their own teams. "The whole idea of the mentorship program is strengthening our Davey culture and increasing belonging within the organization," Baltes said. from the Davey Institute is monitoring the category to verify answers. Davey Onboarding Experience The Davey Onboarding Experience engages new employees through a number of ways and tools, including training materials on the Davey Learning Management System (LMS), the Welcome Kit and New Hire Guide, and the mentorship program.
