The Davey Tree Expert Company
has partnered with the Pittsburgh
Penguins of the National Hockey
League for a new community
initiative to help restore and protect
Pittsburgh's urban forest. Through
the "Score for the Trees" program,
the two organizations will plant one
tree in the greater Pittsburgh area
for every goal scored by a Penguins
player at PPG Paints Arena during
the 2022-2023 regular season.
Davey employees and Penguins
personnel will be working with Tree Pittsburgh to plant the
awarded trees in the greater Pittsburgh area. Tree planting
dates and locations will be announced later this year.
"We've worked in the Pittsburgh area for almost 100 years
now, and we're thrilled to partner with the Penguins and
Tree Pittsburgh," said Sandra Reid, vice president, corporate
communications
and strategic
planning. "Like us,
they're both organizations that
have a commitment to the
community, and we're excited
to work with them to expand and
reestablish Pittsburgh's urban
forest. We look forward to
rooting on the Penguins to score
more goals!"
"We couldn't be more excited
to partner with the Pittsburgh
Penguins and Davey Tree to plant trees where they are
needed the most," said Danielle Crumrine, Tree Pittsburgh
executive director. "Trees positively impact human health,
add beauty to the landscape, and they help to cut cooling
costs during the hot summer months. These impacts will
only increase as the trees grow."

SPORTS PARTNERSHIP GROWS CLEVELAND CANOPY
Davey is helping grow Cleveland's
tree canopy thanks to a partnership
with the Greater Cleveland Sports
Commission and the National Football
League (NFL) that added 344 trees to
parks throughout the city in the fall.
The Davey Nursery planted the
trees, all 2-inch caliper assorted
hardwood and ornamental trees, at
21 different parks. The parks are a
mix of playgrounds, ballfi elds, and
recreation centers.
Rick Hanshaw, branch manager, said
all of the trees came from the Davey
Nursery and were planted by nursery
employees with support from the
Cleveland West CLS territory.
"That many trees is a big project for
us and may be the largest municipal
planting project we have been part
of," Hanshaw said.

Kirtland Park as part of a partnership with
the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.
The plantings will help to combat a declining
canopy, as Cleveland lost 5 percent of its
tree canopy from 2011 to 2017, according to
the Cleveland Tree Plan 2020 Tree Canopy
Progress Report. Cleveland cut the ribbon on
Kirtland Park in June 2017. The park, located
along Cleveland's lakefront, has views of
Lake Erie and the downtown skyline. Davey
Nursery employees planted trees in the
park in November.
