OHIO GAS LINE ROW PROJECT CONTINUES
The fi rst 250 miles of a Dominion Energy Ohio right-of-way
(ROW) 500-mile gas pipeline identifi cation and clearing
project that began fi ve years ago is complete. The next
80-mile stretch of ROW clearing of Type B gathering lines,
or pipelines used to transport gas, has begun in Youngstown,
Ohio, with plans to complete that section this spring.
"I have never had the opportunity to have such a strategic
partnership with a client as special as the one we have
created with all the folks at Dominion. The collaboration we
have created with them and multiple Davey service lines,
and the fact that they understand the 'Davey difference'
that we provide has been a huge benefi t to the amount
of work we have performed over the past fi ve years," said
Jeff Crites, vice president of operations, Davey Business
Development Team.
Sindi Paul, UVM lead specialist, Davey Resource Group
(DRG), coordinates the entire project, and has been working
on it since 2019.
Pat Adolph, foreman, Akron offi ce, is the project manager
for operations in the fi eld, managing the Residential/
Commercial services (R/C) and Commercial Landscape
Services (CLS) crews. R/C clears gas lines by mowing to
remove material less than 8 inches in diameter and felling
trees greater than 8 inches in diameter. CLS performs
mowing to maintain the ROW lines. Davey Resource Group
(DRG), Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) services,
provides herbicide applications.
Paul and her team are planning the next phase of the
project, a 140-mile section, located in two Ohio cities,
Canton and Massillon. "The planning phase involves line
locating the gas line using a locating device and staking
the location of the gas line, fl agging the ROW corridor
boundaries, mapping and inventorying of all trees to be
removed utilizing Davey's MyROWKeeper software, and
property owner notifi cation of tree removals. DRG will
also manage the Type B projects once tree removals have
begun," Paul said.
