ASK THE CEO:
Q. WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR ACCOMMODATING THE
ADDITIONAL CORPORATE OFFICE SPACE NEEDED TO SUPPORT
THE BUSINESS AS WE CONTINUE TO GROW AND EXPAND?
Above: This architectural rendering of the corporate office
addition shows how the 38,000 square feet of new space
attaches to the existing building.
that our rapid growth of late has put a strain on some
of our ability to be as responsive as we strive to be.
This additional space will allow us to improve efficiency
and staff to the level that will ensure the highest quality
support for our internal and external clients.
The current corporate office, excluding the Davey
Institute, is about 41,000 square feet and houses about
200 employees. The addition will be about 38,000
square feet of new space, so our corporate office space
will effectively double.
Construction will begin by the middle of 2020 and
continue through 2021 with some changes and expansion
of the rear parking lots beginning early next year. Our
goal is to open the addition in the first quarter of 2022.
The exterior design is very familiar with the style and
architecture of the existing building. The interior layout
will allow us to incorporate new office design concepts
to improve communication and collaboration and update
our existing office space. When it is completed, we will
have a great place for our employees to continue to
grow, succeed and contribute.
Thank you for your support of this exciting new initiative,
and we will share more details as the construction
process gets under way.
A. We evaluated various options to address our need
for additional office space here in Kent and, in the
end, we determined that building an addition to the
corporate office is the best solution for our employees.
In 1985, when we built the corporate office, the
architects designed it so another wing could be built
and connected to the two existing wings via the atrium.
So, we knew it was always an option and we have
worked around space needs through leasing and
refurbishing existing office space, but the time has
come to employ a longer-term solution and add the third
wing. Our board of directors has approved the addition,
and construction is scheduled to start in 2020.
Based on surveys with support department leaders
and our analysis of projected future needs, this building
addition will ensure that we can eliminate the existing
corporate space issues, comfortably accommodate
projected growth over the next 10 years and move some
team members back to the corporate campus from remote
locations. Our corporate functions exist to serve our
employee owners, clients and field operations and, based
on recent feedback from our field managers, we know
