3 November/December 2019 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN 'TIS THE SEASON TO BE THANKFUL The holidays provide a wonderful opportunity to reflect on all those people and events in our lives we are grateful for. In 2019, as Davey employees we have enjoyed the privilege of celebrating 40 years of employee ownership. We hope you've had the opportunity to take part in that celebration, whether through a small event with your local team, a trip to a conference, training session or the corporate office, or simply by engaging online with some of the messaging we've shared on social media this year. Most of all, we are hopeful the stories we've shared in the Bulletin this year have helped you feel connected to your fellow employee-owners. We concluded this celebration with a series of communications and events in October, which is recognized as Employee-Ownership Month. But this time of year isn't just for reflecting. Those messages included information from Davey President and CEO Pat Covey looking toward the future of employee ownership and the expansion of our corporate campus – read more about that on pages 4 and 10. We are hopeful that as you look back on 2019 you are as grateful for being a part of the Davey Company as we are! CLIENTS AND COMMUNITIES Our clients and communities have just as much gratitude for the Davey Company as we do. In this issue, you'll read about how our clients are grateful for our employees' integrity when it comes to helping rescue dozens of birds from a tree in Oakland or a single client's cat in Toronto. You'll hear from communities thankful for the integrity of an employee who administered first-aid after a car crash and for information shared about the dreaded spotted lanternfly and emerald ash borer. And you'll hear about Davey crews responding in the Midwest and Southeast to powerful storms that knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of homes – making the sound of big green trucks rumbling in a gratitude-inspiring sight to behold. CHERISHED RESTING PLACE One of the most powerful stories you'll hear in this issue comes from the relative of a nurse interred at Arlington National Cemetery. The relative writes an open letter to the landscape crews who care for America's most sacred burial grounds. In the letter, a woman speaks gracefully of her profound appreciativeness for the care we bestow upon her aunt's grave. It's an incredibly moving testimonial, and one that could have come from the family of almost any person interred there. Read her gratitude on page 12. What you are grateful for doesn't have to be as grand. After all, it's the simple things that count. Want to give your thanks for Davey?
