13 January/February 2018 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN BUILDING CAMARADERIE IN THE TREE CARE INDUSTRY Three climbers from the Fort Collins R/C office and one climber from the West Denver R/C office represented Davey in the Rocky Mountain Chapter Tree Climbing Competition at Washington Park in Denver. The highest place for a Davey employee was 27th and most were in the low 30s, which is pretty good for being the first competition for all the climbers, said Natalie McNeill, district manager, Fort Collins R/C office. "I wanted my guys to compete," McNeill said. "It is good for our employees to get that exposure." McNeill and Vince Distrola, assistant district manager, West Denver R/C office, agreed a highlight from the day was David Devine's, crew leader, West Denver R/C office, aerial rescue. Both recall Devine making his rescue quickly and coming out of the tree to applause from the spectators. "He let out this big yell and was pumped," Distrola said. "It was pretty fun to watch." Devine said he was really impressed with himself, especially with it being his first time competing. "I just stuck to the objectives and went up there and got my rescue down as fast as I could," Devine said. "I don't mess around when it comes to safety." Competitor Tyler Andrews, lead foreman, Fort Collins R/C, said competitors try to help each other during the competition, so they are competing against everyone's best effort. Mike Wallace, S&S technician, fourth from left, Fort Collins R/C office, helped judge the competition and operated the Davey bucket truck in the throwline event. PRIORITIZING CLIENT EXPERIENCE Select Davey district managers from across Residential/Commercial operations gathered in Kent recently on a mission to continue down the road of excellent client experience. The District Manager Client Experience Council has been the driving force behind a number of new projects implemented operationally, and its members continue to look for ways to improve both the employee experience and the client experience. New members of the council are Ken Cloutier, East Cleveland office; Brian Baker, San Francisco office and Brian Cox, Dallas office. The District Manager Client Experience Council gathers to further Davey's client experience. Pictured include: Ed Legge, Natascha Batchelor, Bob Meoak, Max Walter, Brian Cox, Brian Baker, Anthony Faoro, Ken Cloutier, Shawn Kingzett, Gary Schermerhorn and Richard Foote. "It's kind of a cool opportunity to build camaraderie in the industry," Andrews said. "And, getting to know the other climbers that climb in Denver and seeing the talent that is out there."
