The Davey Resource Group and
Eastern Utility Services partnered
with their client MidAmerican Energy
to plant two prairifire flowering
crabapple trees on Arbor Day at St.
Paul's the Apostle Catholic School in
Davenport, Iowa.
Geoff Watson, production manager
with DRG Upper Midwest Region
UVM Group, said any opportunity to
capitalize upon each other's strengths
can only make the two service
lines stronger.
Marty Kenosian, production manager
for the Eastern Utility MidAmerican
Energy Account, recently moved to
COMBINING FORCES FOR PLANTING WITH MUTUAL CLIENT
the area from Detroit and volunteered
at the rainy, cold planting at the school.
Kenosian said it was a great
opportunity to do something for the
new community he just moved to.
"It was nice getting out into the
community and doing something in
our field for charity," Kenosian said.
April's not an optimal time to plant
trees in Portland, Oregon. However,
for Ruth Williams, project coordinator
with Davey Resource Group, Arbor
Month is a time to celebrate.
"It's sort of the party at the end of
the planting season where we look
at the urban forest and go 'Hey, yeah,
ARBOR MONTH AN AFTERPARTY FOR THE PLANTING SEASON
we made it a little better this year,'"
Williams said.
Williams volunteered a total of 31
hours throughout the month and
participated in several events,
including working with the Street Tree
Inventory Volunteers (pictured above).
She noticed the themes of diversity
and inclusion popping up throughout
the month. Many communities
designed their events to focus on
these two areas, she said.
"I think the urban forest should be
available to all," Williams said. "We
should be reaching out to all members
of our community."
Davey's Marty Kenosian, David Apple, Eric Lissy, Michael Coers and Matthew Bailey volunteered alongside Mitch Salek and Derek Sanders
from MidAmerican Energy to plant two prairifire flowering crabapple trees at St. Paul's the Apostle Catholic School.
