September/October 2017 | The Davey Bulletin 27 " Safety is a huge part of the job. We have a meeting every Friday to discuss safety with the team. They really preach safety here at Davey, which I appreciate. I pass on what I learn to the guys. When I see someone without safety glass- es on, I'll remind them the importance of PPE." — Tom Swartz mechanic, Kent Shop Kent, Ohio OWNER'S BOX 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU' Elementary school students from Weston, Massachusetts, sang "Happy Birthday" to a newly planted sugar maple tree on Arbor Day. "They spontaneously broke out into singing happy birthday to this tree," Russell Holman, sales arborist with the Hartney Greymont, a Davey company, Concord office, said. Holman inserted the planting he did with the students into their lesson about making maple sugar. He worked with Woodland and Country Elementary Schools in Weston. Russell Holman spoke to the students about the basic biology of trees, parts of the trees and the students' connection to them. Three Cleveland select pear trees replaced dead maple trees at the Moore Township Recreational Fields in Bath, Pennsylvania, on Arbor Day. Dustin Rhoades, UVM senior specialist with the Davey Resource Group (DRG), said 20 township residents, three township supervisors and five DRG employees attended the planting. The crew conducted a tree planting seminar and taught residents the proper way to plant a tree, Rhoades said.
