THE DAVEY BULLETIN
INTEGRITY
James Jane, tree care coordinator, West Chicago office,
Residential/Commercial services, was finishing up work
at a large property when a young teen approached his
crew, appearing
to be in pain.
"Something didn't
seem right," Jane
recalled. "I noticed
he was bleeding
from the knee."
He explained that
he'd taken a pretty
bad spill on his
bike, so Jane
grabbed his first
aid kit and assisted
him in getting
cleaned up. The teen's mom later thanked Jane with a card.
"I was just trying to look out for someone else's child,"
Jane said, "and I'm glad I could help."
FIRST-AID KIT MAKES CREW
INTO FIRST RESPONDERS
About a month into her Davey career, Chantelle Howard,
groundperson, Vancouver Utility account, Davey Tree
Expert Co. of Canada, Limited, administered first aid
to an elderly man while working in a residential area of
White Rock, British Columbia.
The man, who lived near the worksite, had tripped on
uneven pavement, causing several deep lacerations.
After calling the paramedics, Howard dressed his wounds;
the bleeding was
amplified because
he was on blood
thinners.
"I just knew I
needed to bandage
him up because he
was bleeding so
badly," she recalled.
"I let him know that
he would be okay
and that I wouldn't
leave his side."
1 MONTH INTO JOB, NEW
EMPLOYEE LENDS A HAND
QUICK ACTION FROM EMPLOYEE STOPS BRUSH FIRE
At the end of his workday in Lintlaw,
Saskatchewan, Canada, Connor
Hughes noticed a brush fire spreading
along the shoulder of the highway on
his way back to his motel.
After calling the fire department,
Hughes grabbed a fire extinguisher
from his work truck and started
putting out the fire and stomped on
smoldering spots with his work boots
once his fire extinguisher had run out
fully. Firefighters arrived after he had
the flames under control.
"I see supporting the community and
looking out for others not as a task
but as a responsibility that reflects
who we are as a company, and I strive
to bring that into everything I do," said
Hughes, vegetation technician, Davey
Resource Group Canada. "If you drive
or are a passenger in a truck that says
Davey, if you wear a shirt or sweater
or hard hat that also may have Davey
anywhere on it, remember you are
one of the many faces of the company
and the community. Wear it proudly
and professionally."
