DAVEY AROUND THE WORLD VISITING MOUNT RUSHMORE WITH A PURPOSE Terry Brier, sales representative, Portland office, Residential/ Commercial services, helped chaperone 60 high school students on a trip to Mount Rushmore in April as they attended the 2025 Moose International Youth Awareness Congress where $30,000 in scholarships were awarded. High schoolers mentor elementary school students in this program, which is run throughout the U.S. and Canada. Subjects focused on include drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, nutrition and other topics. "It's a great introduction to public speaking. It builds confidence, and it gives an opportunity for scholarships and a free trip," Brier, a coordinator for The Oregon Moose Association, said. "When the high school students get in front of the elementary school kids, you can see their ears come forward and their eyes light up." When her husband was scheduled to present at a conference in the country's capital of Lisbon, the opportunity soon turned into a family vacation, and Morgan said the experience was cooler than they ever imagined. "There were turquoise, crystal-clear waters, dinosaur tracks left in the orange sandstone and a backpackers trail through the coastal mountains," Morgan, associate consultant, Environmental Consulting services, Davey Resource Group, said. "It wasn't touristy, as it is one of the last fishing villages in the area. We never ran into another American." Jamie Morgan stands on the southern coast of Portugal near Salema during a trip to the country. Send us a photo of you holding a copy of The Bulletin on your next adventure to bulletin@davey.com.
