11 September/October 2025 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN SAFETY Central Residential/Commercial (R/C) operations, said. "Our hope is that our program will encourage employees to go above and beyond in demonstrating outstanding safety leadership, leading by example and inspiring others to contribute to a safer, more secure environment for everyone." Dan Duchene, one of this year's Shining STARs, is approach- ing his two-year service anniversary. He said he remembers to keep safety at the forefront of any assignment for himself and his team by thoroughly assessing every aspect of a situation, building a plan and remembering that people's wellbeing is more important than any production numbers. "Production is great, but we have to make sure that we're safe and getting home to our families," Duchene, foreman, North St. Paul office, said. "That's got to be our top priority." To keep growing in such an evolving field while staying safe on the job, Duchene's biggest advice for employees remains simple: Don't try and impress anyone but yourself. "This job teaches people a lot of values that carry through into life," Duchene said. "You conquer hard situations, get that gratification. You conquer fears. You learn leadership skills. Build your self-confidence." 'SHINING STARs' EXEMPLIFY R/C SAFETY LEADERSHIP This year's 18 Shining STARs from Residential/Commercial's R/C STAR (Safer Through Achievements & Recognition) program each agreed they cannot go a day without hearing about the importance of safety on the job at Davey. These individuals were recognized this summer for upholding safety at work to the highest level with the STAR award. They were chosen to represent their market at R/C's Health and Safety Roundtable meeting, receiving special safety programming and taking tours of corporate, SEED (Science, Employee Education and Development) Campus and Kent Shop. "Our Shining STARs are the best among us in terms of promoting a safe workplace and culture, and we recognize them in a special way because we're proud of them and thankful for them," Andy Ferguson, vice president, South 2025 R/C SHINING STARs Kevin Ahn, Arbor Tree Service office Jeremy Bake, Canton office Libby Bower, Barrington office Daniel Duchene, North St. Paul office Anthony Glassey, East San Antonio office Cameron Grove, Columbus office Zachary Hall, Charlotte office Codie Martin, Richmond office Lon McCaslin, Naperville office Jaime Merritt, Santa Cruz office Cody Miller, Northwest Seattle office Evan Mitchell, Knoxville office Christopher Nichols, Rochester office Joshua Noe, North Cincinnati office Tanner Potter, Chippers Enfield office Michael Tilton, Needham office Izaiah Valdespino, East Denver office Jose Ventura Jr., North Philadelphia office This year's R/C Shining STARs stand at the Davey SEED Campus with company leadership, including Geoff Cowan, Jim Houston, Phil Snyder and Pat Covey.
