20 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2025 INTEGRITY Zachary Carper, landscape crew leader, Cleveland territory, Commercial Landscape Services (CLS), was driving alongside the main road of the Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio, when he noticed resident Robert Leppo slip and fall on the sidewalk. Carper was able to safely pull his truck off the road, and aid Leppo in getting back on his feet and to his front door. "I would want somebody to do the same for me or my family because wanting to help others should be a natural reaction," Carper said. "The property is very community-based, and I know if it was me who had fallen, someone would have helped me too." RETIREMENT COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE While working at a job site on a hospital property, sales arborist Ethan Ramirez, Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited, Nanaimo Residential office, called an all-stop after noticing a man had lost control of his electric scooter nearby. Ramirez led the team's response, treating the man's wounds, while teammates kept him upright, gathered first-aid kits, and called emergency assistance. "It was really important to lead by example and stay calm, but also lend a hand," Ramirez said. "There may be time pressures on our path to complete work in time, but we have to be aware of the public around us. I think it highlights Davey's culture of care and the teamwork that we strive for." SCOOTER ACCIDENT PROMPTS TEAM RESPONSE Ethan Ramirez The Leppo's commended Zachary Carper through a written letter to Davey, for being a "true hero," and helping when he saw someone in need. The Davey logo appeared front and center at one of the most exciting tracks on the NASCAR Cup Series circuit in March, when the Joe Gibbs Racing DEWALT ® #20 car driven by Christopher Bell earned pole position for the start of the race. Thanks to our partnership with DEWALT tools, Davey was at the front of the pack for the start of the NASCAR Cup Series Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway. The shortest track on the cup series, Martinsville lends itself to exciting, paint-rubbing action. Bell earned pole position as top qualifier with a qualifying lap time of 19.7 seconds, clocking a top speed of 96 mph. Bell finished the race second overall behind race winner Denny Hamlin.
