4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | November/December 2024 impacted communities as quickly as possible. After the storm passes, having safety and training support staff on-site to monitor the safety and effi cacy of the work being done is paramount. The focus from the top down at Davey is that we take responsibility and hold ourselves accountable to our Davey families to ensure their loved ones come home safe and the resources are in place to fulfi ll that commitment. More than 2,000 Davey employees responded to the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Crews from Eastern Utility services, Residential/Commercial services, the Davey Tree Surgery Company, the Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited, DRG and CLS were among the responders assisting the affected communities. Over the course of my thirty-three years at Davey, I have been involved with and seen many storm responses, but I can't recall a response having as many employees, from all the various service areas within the company, as we had in response to these two storms alone. For those employees on the response teams, we know it's a big ask to be away from home for weeks at a time, but your grit and tenacity to get the job done are incredibly impactful for our communities, our clients, and the company. For those employees whose lives were personally impacted by the storms and may need assistance, we are here for you. The Davey Employee Assistance Program (DEAP) was established several years ago to help employees whose homes were damaged or destroyed by wildfi res and hurricanes. We are working to accelerate fi nancial assistance through the DEAP, but it can be based, in part, on federal disaster declaration status, so please know we are doing everything we can to expedite the benefi ts process. Davey is the safest, most skilled and professional company in the green industry. We shine brightest during these major events because of our incredible Davey team and the families who stand behind them in support. A. I want to personally thank both the Davey employees who responded to this year's storms and the family members of those Davey employees for the sacrifi ces made as we assisted the communities recovering from these devastating weather events. For any family members reading this column, you should be very proud of your spouse, partner, parent, son, daughter, or sibling who responded or supported responders as part of Davey's efforts to assist the communities in need in the Southeast as they recovered from the destructive storms. We receive many calls from family members asking about their relatives working in the tough conditions that exist in the wake of these damaging events. You should know that we have a tremendous infl ux of support staff whose primary role is to keep our people safe during storm responses, and we rally everyone we can to be available to ensure safe working conditions for our teammates involved in the recovery efforts. We know that many spouses and others on the family support team are at home working, taking care of kids, and keeping the home front functioning while our folks are away, and we are incredibly grateful for your support and understanding. We know Davey is asking for a lot during storm responses, but we are hopeful you recognize that through these efforts, we are having an incredible impact on the people in the affected communities while securing our position with our clients as a company that can rally to meet the moment when times are challenging. These efforts are critical to providing service to our clients and for the success of our company, and we appreciate you for your part in helping our neighbors rebuild. Here at Davey, safety is at the core of our everyday activities and is especially critical during storm responses. It starts by ensuring we are not sending our people into the path of a storm. Crews are deliberately staged outside of the forecasted storm path while preparing to respond to the Q.
