INTERNSHIPS A BRIGHT SPOT
FOR DAVEY AND STUDENTS
INTERN DAY AT CHIPPERS
Interns from the Northlands, New England and Metro New
York City Residential/Commercial (R/C) operations attended
an intern day hosted by Chippers Inc., a Davey company.
The interns participated in several outdoor sessions, which
included chainsaw safety, climbing and working aloft, sales
and management, turfgrass care and plant health care. They
also received instruction on urban forest truths, soil care
and pollinator gardens. The interns learned about the value
of obtaining industry certifications and licenses and the
resources available through Davey's Learning Management
System (LMS).
INTERN DAY AT DULLES OFFICE
The Virginia-Tidewater-Mid Atlantic R/C operations held an
intern day at the Dulles R/C office.
The interns received an overview of the Davey Company and
the career opportunities available to them here. There were
several outdoor sessions that included an introduction to
climbing, chainsaw safety/maintenance, tree identification
and inventory, and plant health care/soil care basics.

The Bridge to Crafts Careers Landscape Restoration
Program at Woodlawn Cemetery is in its third year, with
23 students in this year's cohort. The career program is a
10-week paid internship that includes both hands-on and
virtual learning.
The Davey Institute provides instructors for the program to
assist with daily virtual classes, weekly career day presen-
tations and occasional on-site assistance. Herb Landmann,
project manager, Davey Business Development Team,
works with the students on site daily during the program.
This fall's students pruned hundreds of shrubs, mulched
over 100 trees, transplanted 29 trees and learned how to
operate string trimmers and lawn mowers. They performed
invasive species removals and did trail maintenance at Van
Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The students also did additional
tree and shrub planting, installed sod, planted 1,000 daffodil
bulbs, and performed landscape restoration work at West
Farms Soldier Cemetery in the Bronx.
