19 November/December 2022 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN ISA 2022 ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Dana Karcher, project developer, Davey Resource Group (DRG), Environmental Consulting services (EC), opened the International Society of Arboriculture's (ISA) Annual Conference, held in Malmo, Sweden, completing her year-long service as ISA's president. Held after the close of the ISA's International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC), the ISA Annual Conference provided an opportunity for attendees to learn and network with industry professionals. Karcher was joined at the conference by DRG's Gail Nozal, area manager, and Shirley Vaughn, project developer, who serve as ISA Board members. Josh Behounek, business development manager, DRG, EC, along with Kenton Rogers, co-founder of Treeconomics, spoke about equity in the urban forest. Also in attendance were Michael Sultan, project developer, DRG, Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) services, as well as ISA's Rocky Mountain Chapter president Jeffrey Meyer, sales and service coordinator, Residential/ Commercial (R/C) services, Boulder office, and ISA's New England Chapter president Doak Marasco, regional manager, Davey Business Development Team. "I opened up the conference and welcomed everyone, highlighting what the ISA has done for our members over the past year. I had the opportunity to thank those who put on the conference and the volunteers that support the ISA. I'm extremely grateful for Davey's support in encouraging not only me, but other members of our organization, to serve in a leadership capacity. It's not only good personally, but also professionally, and it's great for the company as well," Karcher said. Pictured from left at the ISA's International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC) awards are Dana Karcher, project developer, DRG, EC, and Davey Institute arborist skills trainers Tim Bushnell and Eduardo Medina. Karcher and Medina presented the ITCC awards, and Bushnell received the Millard F. Blair Award for Exceptional Contribution to Practical Arboriculture. Davey, in collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation, planted one tree for each of the 731 attendees of the 2022 ISA Annual Conference. The trees were planted in Florida's Econfina Creek and Chipola River watersheds. In 2018, Hurricane Michael destroyed thousands of acres of timber in these watersheds. These 731 trees are part of a larger tree planting effort of more than 1.4 million trees, helping to restore native longleaf pine and slash pine to the area. Left: Hurricane Michael devastated the watersheds that are the primary source of potable water for Florida's Bay County. The trees planted will improve the health of the watersheds and the habitat for the wildlife, including quail, tortoises, squirrels, deer, turkeys, and more. Note: no Davey employees are pictured. ONE TREE PLANTED FOR EACH ATTENDEE Davey was the Recharge Lounge Sponsor at the ISA 2022 Annual Conference. Attendees used the space to connect and discuss what they learned.
