15 July/August 2022 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN LEADERSHIP COLORADO-OMAHA WOMEN'S CAREER WORKSHOP A women's career workshop held in Colorado this spring included a climbing training session. An inaugural women's career workshop in Northglenn, Colorado, gave some of Davey's field personnel time to evaluate and sharpen their career toolkit. Over two days in May, presentations were given on workplace harassment, finding confidence, women's gear, women in PHC, and overcoming challenges in the workplace. Tree climbing stations were set up for experienced climbers, as well as for those who were less experienced or who had never climbed a tree. Sessions on plant healthcare, tree planting, and how to become a sales arborist or manager also took place. The district managers in attendance met with Kenyatta Beverly, labor and employment counsel, cor- porate legal department, to discuss how they can be allies with women in the workforce. Workshop attendee Kylie Comba, PHC technician, Omaha office, said Beverly's workplace harassment presentation was excellent. "She gave us a lot of tips on how to deal with situations, and emphasized that it's okay to speak up," Comba said. "I also like having women as role models, who share some of the same issues as me." Josslynn Barker, S&S technician, West Denver office, said she learned there are a lot of resources the Davey Institute and the LMS offer that she would like to leverage to develop her career. "I would like to become a qualified supervisor, which is through earning the Pesticide Applicator License in Colorado," Barker said. Kevin Marks, Colorado Omaha market manager, South Central operating group, Residential Commercial services, and Natalie McNeill, district manager, Fort Collins office, worked together to organize the workshop. "Natalie has always been a big proponent of women in tree care," Marks said. "The idea of creating this workshop was to look at arboriculture as a field currently dominated by men and find ways to break down barriers to help clear the way for women."
