LEADERSHIP
Why hold training sessions dedicated to women? In the
United States, only 7.4%* of currently employed arborists
are women.
This spring, 62 women from all four service lines and
support staff, along with 30 male allies, attended Davey's
Western Women's+ Careers workshop in Northglenn,
Colorado. Davey's employee base is currently 14% female
and growing, in part due to programs like this one.
Topics covered included employee-ownership, "The Power
of Your Voice," peer gear inspection, and career development.
Tree climbing, plant health care, sales, chainsaw basics, and
safety topics were explored in an outdoor session on the
second day.
Katelyn Obana, sales and service coordinator, Menlo Park
office, Residential/Commercial services, said she
THE POWER OF YOUR VOICE
appreciated how
open everyone was
and that it was a
safe environment.
"It was really easy
to connect with so
many women there, and the trainers who set up the
outdoor activity day were really awesome."

BULLETIN MANAGING EDITOR
ATTENDS WOMEN'S+ EVENT
"I truly had a wonderful time attending this two-day event
with this group of women and allies," said Steph Donovan,
managing editor, The Bulletin. "Natalie McNeill, operations
manager, Residential/Commercial services, set the tone
with opening remarks, emphasizing that the group should
approach the event by assuming positive intent and
supporting one another."
Pictured at the event, climbing a tree for the first time,
Donovan said, "It was an amazing experience! I have a much
deeper understanding now for how much work and effort it
takes to climb a tree. If you're willing and able and have the
opportunity to try it, I encourage it."
Steph Donovan interviewed
Natalie McNeill at the Women's+
event. Listen to McNeill answer
the question, "How have you seen
Davey leaders include and amplify
diverse voices?"
To close out the
Western Women's+
event, several

"The biggest takeaway for me was
getting to the corporate office and
realizing that there's a lot more to
Davey than just the region I work in,"
Matt Hoke, account manager, Yorktown
territory, said. "You start to understand
that you're a part of something bigger
than just your home operations."
