ASK THE CEO
Q. HOW DO WE MAINTAIN OUR FOCUS ON SAFETY?
state, their willingness to be
present in the moment, and how
they're engaged while they're at
work all make a difference.
I think most people have a morning
ritual where they mentally examine
their goals for the day
ahead. Safety must be at
the top of everyone's list.
We need to wake up
every day and say to
ourselves, "today I don't
want someone I care about
to be hurt." It sounds cliché, but
every day we have to ask ourselves,
"what do I need to do today to go
home safe?"
Finding that answer starts with
taking a step back and finding your
own personal motivation to work
safely each day. Last year, a big part

is your children. This year, maybe
it's your spouse, your parents, your
coworkers or even your pets.

safety, and clearly that spilled
over into the work environment.
We've worked to create that kind
of catalyst in the past in various
safety programs. This year, our
challenge is to recreate that sense
of urgency around safety.
Safety is personal. It is an individual
commitment as much as it is a
collective one. Everyone's mental
Whatever your motivation is, it's
about finding that personal focus
to work safely. If we all find our
individual safety focus, together
we'll make sure every Davey
employee goes home safe at
the end of each day.
