SAFETY IS WORTH CELEBRATING
In this Bulletin issue we celebrate and
reiterate the value of safety at Davey.
Inside you'll find the complete 2020
Safety Honor Road, which identifies
Davey employees who have had
one year or more with zero OSHA
recordable lost time injuries.
More than 3,700 employees made
the list for 2020. Congratulations to
everyone who appears on the Safety
Honor Road!
SAFETY IS PERSONAL
Davey Chairman, President and CEO
Pat Covey shares with us his take on
safety and how all employees can
benefit from finding their own personal
motivation to go home safe each day.
After you read his column on page
4, consider sharing with us your
safety motivation.
Send an email to bulletin@davey.com
and tell us your motivation to work
safe. We'll consider sharing some of
the best motivations to help all Davey
employees find safety inspiration in
a future Bulletin issue.
SAFETY IS A JOURNEY
In 2020, Davey hit a milestone on
the Road to Zero. The Road to Zero
safety initiative was launched in
2004 with the goal of achieving zero
incidents companywide.
Last year, Davey ended the year with
a companywide 4.4 Total Recordable
Incident Rate (TRIR) – the lowest
companywide TRIR since launching the
Road to Zero initiative 17 years ago.
The 2020 incident rate represents a
continual downward trend in the TRIR.
Read how Davey employees travel
further down the Road to Zero each
year on page 12.
SAFETY IS A MINDSET
This Bulletin issue also celebrates
those Residential/Commercial (R/C)
services operations that earned a
0.0 TRIR for 2020.
You'll hear from two R/C services
district managers in this issue whose
offices recorded zero incidents last
year. For them and their crews, safety
is a mindset.
Turn to page 14 to hear their advice
for running a safe operation at Davey.
SAFETY IS A VALUE
Ultimately, safety is a core value for
all of us.
At Davey, our company value of safety
is defined as meaning "we protect
and care for each other."
On page 16 you'll learn how supervisors
on the Austin Energy account are
leaning in to safety as a value as they
ramp up a new account for 2021.
SAFETY IS A LEGACY
Finally, all Davey employees should
know that safety is part of our DNA.
Our history is full of examples of how
Davey pioneered or innovated safe
practices within the tree care industry.
Read in "From the Archives" a brief
history of how hardhats became a
companywide mandate for Davey
employees on page 35.
