"
I do a lot of safety
training with the crews.
One thing I always
tell them is that I want
them to go home happy
and healthy at the end
of every day. It's foolish
to take chances with
your life and your
health. If you're unsure
about something, ask.
Ignorance kills. Davey's
single-minded focus
on safety has made
me re-examine how
I act outside of work,
too. My wife used to
tease me that I'd talk
about safety all day,
but then not be the
safest at home. There's
been a pretty dramatic
change. For safety to
really mean something,
you need to practice
it – even when you're
not at work.
