7 May/June 2018 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN FLORIDA HOSTS PHC WORKSHOP Fourteen employees representing both Commercial Landscape Services (CLS) and Residential/Commercial (R/C) services from the southeast operating group gathered in Jacksonville, Florida, for a Plant Health Care (PHC) workshop. The workshop was facilitated by A.D. Ali and Shawn Fitzgerald, technical advisors, with the Davey Institute. Some of the topics covered during the workshop were irrigation, seasonal color displays, turf insects and diseases, Fitzgerald said. "Irrigation is a big part of the program in the South" Fitzgerald said. During the workshop, Ali and Fitzgerald turned over the reins to workshop attendee Paul Kovacik, account manager, Tampa CLS Christine Balk, technical advisor, Davey Institute, said the workshop focused on giving attendees the basics of Plant Heath Care and other skills needed in the field. The workshop also included a demonstration on how to inject a tree for oak wilt, Balk said. A.D. Ali, technical advisor, Davey Institute, said attendees also took a trip to the West San Antonio R/C office for a session on the use of equipment and safety. During the visit, Tim Jackson, district manager, West San Antonio office, led a discussion on customer service, Ali said. He provided tips on how to work with internal and external clients.
