DAVEY AND ISA BRING TREE CLIMBING, EDUCATION TO NATION'S CAPITAL While the streets of Washington, D.C., are surely a flurry of activity, it was their trees that saw an increase in traffic this summer. The International Tree Climbing Championship and The International Society of Arboriculture's Annual Conference returned to the banks of the Potomac River in July. More than 60 of the world's best male and female professional tree climbers competed for the title of World Champion at ITCC at the U.S. National Arboretum. DAVEY IS PRESENTING SPONSOR Presented by Davey Tree, the event was open to the public, free and included an arbor fair with activities for families. "With safety as one of our core values, Davey is proud to be the presenting sponsor of ITCC," said Sandra Reid, vice president of corporate communications and strategic planning for Davey Tree. "The competing climbers demonstrated not only magnificent skill and technique, but also extreme attention to safety and its importance in arboriculture. ISA has cultivated an environment of both competition and education around the ITCC, and we are proud to be associated with this event." VOLUNTEERS MAKE IT HAPPEN Davey's involvement rooted deeper than the sponsorship and had people involved in all aspects of the event. Davey's Eduardo Medina served as chairman of the event while Mark Noark, Andrew Misch, Katie Harper and Corey Shepherd served as volunteers, timing and assisting with the competition. Representatives from Davey and The Care of Trees (TCOT) local offices came out to answer the many tree questions of attendees at ISA's "Ask the Arborist Booth" at the arbor fair. Davey's arbor fair booth invited attendees to talk economic benefits of trees.
