May/June 2017 | The Davey Bulletin 25 INTEGRITY IS A KEY DAVEY VALUE Jason Agosto Senior supervisor, Utility services Tampa Electric account Tampa, Florida "When I think of integrity, I go back to my childhood. My mother is the most honest person I have ever encountered. Even now, I step back and think, "How would mom deal with this?" It helps. "Because let's face it. You know right from wrong. So, stick to the right, but don't ignore what's wrong. In those times, you have to stand out and stand up – even when it's tough. You have to grit your teeth and do it. To progress and lead at Davey, you need to make those tough calls. "At Davey, that's important. You need to be honest and be a straight shooter. Plus, I'm a father and grandfather. Some of my sons even work at Davey. I need to teach them by acting and doing things right – all the time, at work and at home." Chris Jancsurak Crew leader, Commercial Landscape Services Cleveland, Ohio "My brother-in-law, who's a foreman, hired me at Davey. He taught me to take pride in what I was doing. A big part of that was learning to do it right or not at all. "When I started, if something I planted was off even by an inch, he'd have me dig it up, move it over and replant it. It drove me crazy! Now, I'm the one who steps back and sees if what we did is exactly right. If it's off by even a little or just not right, I fix it. "We always have the time to do it right. After all, we're building stuff to last. That's what sets us at Davey apart. We take pride in our work, we do it right, and we even have scientists telling us why this is proven to be the best way." David Inman Foreman, Residential/Commercial services Napa, California "I try to live my life with integrity. Every day on every job, my crew and I try to do the right thing – from maintaining safety protocol to keeping clients happy and trees healthy. "We want to show up and do a great job. Good communication is a big part of that. You have to be honest – even when it's tough. Look at the big picture. It's not just you out there. You're representing Davey. You have to do the right thing, and in the end, it benefits everyone and everything. "Integrity helps you succeed at your job and in life. And as an employee- owner, when you succeed, the company succeeds, which benefits you in turn. It all goes in a circle." CANOPY ABOVE THE Know a Davey employee who personifies safety, one of our company values? Email their name, the value and why they should be featured to bulletin@davey.com. Integrity – it's a small word with a hefty weight. At Davey, we think of integrity as consistently doing what's right, plain and simple. Daily, we hear stories of Davey individuals doing the right thing, the right way. If we told every story we heard, we could easily fill this issue of The Bulletin – or perhaps an entire book. Today, we're highlighting three Davey employees who live their lives at home and at work with integrity. David Inman Chris Jancsurak Jason Agosto
