SMART GROWTH
All this success brings responsibility.
"We are going to grow smart," Cavey
said. "We need to continue to grow
with the properties that touch our
many service lines without having
to deviate away from our core
business values.
"The Davey Company is unlike any
other culture I have worked within,"
he said. "It's very refreshing to have
this much support and collaboration
between Davey's many service lines."
Davey Golf took over full course
management of Hawthorne Valley
Golf Club in Solon, Ohio, in 2016.
Davey sponsored the PGA
Ohio Open Golf Tournament in 2016
at the Westfield Country Club.
Davey Golf operations have expanded thanks, in
part, to the diversified tree, landscape and
environmental services at their disposal.
Jackson said. "They liked our whole
philosophy of doing business."
While in golf season, 14 to 16 Davey
Golf employees work full-time at the
Lochmoor property mowing, raking
bunkers and prepping the course.
"It's a huge marketing win for the golf
division to be able to say we are the
sole maintenance provider for this
high-end golf club," Jackson said.
Not only is this a huge victory for
Davey Golf but for Davey's North and
South Detroit R/C offices as well. This
contract has provided the Detroit R/C
offices with opportunities to complete
tree work at the course itself, which
lends to the offices obtaining highly
sought-after residential clientele
in the area.
"This contract is a big win," Jackson
said. "If we can take care of this
premier golf club, we can take care
of any premier golf club."
commercial grounds maintenance,
which remains a considerable asset to
overall golf revenue. Last year, Davey
Golf achieved its highest grossing
full-maintenance contract in the divi-
sion's 17-year history.
Mark Jackson, division manager,
secured this contract at Lochmoor
Country Club, a private, high-end
course in Detroit.
"Our relationship with Lochmoor
started 10 years ago," Jackson said.
"They wanted us and another company
to bid on a maintenance contract."
Davey didn't win the initial contract,
but we never lost contact with the
client. It wasn't until last year, and after
three months of negotiation between
Jackson and the Lochmoor staff, that
Davey secured the contract.
"The relationship of trust and
confidence that built up over years
and months led us to get this contract,"
