12 The Davey Bulletin | May/June 2017 Employees in Davey's Mid-Atlantic Residential/Commercial (R/C) oper- ating group recently hosted students from the Pennsylvania State University Mont Alto campus and Allegany College of Maryland on a tour to learn about careers in arboriculture. R/C employees partnered with members of Davey's recruiting/ training team to provide tours of RECRUITING FUTURE ARBORISTS IN THE EAST Crews from Davey's New Jersey Residential/Commercial (R/C) services volunteered with a dozen other tree care and landscape professionals, students and volunteers to clear the Salem Road School's canopy of many dead and dying trees. Since 2006, the "One Day One School" event has united volunteers to give back to a different New Jersey school each year. "We at Davey were part of the founding group of this program," said Rick Close, sales arborist, New Jersey R/C office. To continue the tradition, Mike Pollard, district manager, New Jersey R/C office, sent four volunteers from his office to join the cause. TREE CARE MAKES A DAY'S DIFFERENCE Together, tree care firms, locals and students alike removed 42 dead and hazardous trees and pruned 100 more on the Salem school property. Davey employees were happy to volunteer their time and skills to make their community school grounds a greener and safer place for children to learn and play. "Our crew members look forward to this event every year," Pollard said. "They are proud of our district and want to represent Davey well to their peers and the local community." Several groups of students and professors between 15 and 20 each learned about Davey services, sales and marketing proce- dures and service delivery processes. During the visits, all attendees were provided lunch courtesy of Davey, and they left with a Davey-emblazoned gift. Chris Klimas, operations manager, Mid-Atlantic R/C, said Davey schedules follow-up visits to the schools later in the school year for another chance to meet and make an impression with potential employees. "There are many Penn State and Allegany College alumni at Davey, and our goal is to attract more," Klimas said. Penn State students visit Davey's Chesapeake R/C office. NOTES FIELD
