May/June 2017 | The Davey Bulletin 13 EMBRACING A CLIENT'S CONCERNS Clients' emotions toward their trees can vary greatly. Some clients look forward to saying goodbye to what they see as pesky leaf-dropping nuisances, while others deeply mourn the loss of their giant beauties. One of Davey's new Seattle clients, Shirley, is on the tree-loving side of the spectrum. So, when Jason Adair, foreman, Northwest Seattle Residential/Commercial office, came to do a simple trimming job for her cypress she was naturally concerned about the work. "The client just wanted the tree to be a little more aesthetically pleasing," Adair said. However, as the project proceeded her concerns for her tree's health grew. Adair noticed Shirley's apprehension and reassured her the tree would be okay. "He must have heard her as he was coming down from the lift, and when he got down to the ground he gave her a big, warm hug," said Beth Featherstone, Shirley's neighbor and Davey client, who was observing Adair and his crew work that day. "He didn't need to say a word. The hug said it all," Featherstone said. Both Shirley and Featherstone appreciated Adair's sensitivity to the situation. Each day, Adair's goal is to provide great client experience from beginning Davey's Jason Adair, foreman, Northwest Seattle Residential/ Commercial office, provided excellent client experience for a concerned client. to end. This attention to detail created two happy clients in new client Shirley and longstanding client Featherstone. Adair is a spectacular example that exceptional client experience is noticed and commended. "So many people go about their jobs without soul or caring for the people who are affected by the work they are doing," Featherstone said. "That wasn't the case with Davey." WSSI HOSTS CHINESE DELEGATES TO TEACH WATER MANAGEMENT Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), a Davey company, hosted a group of visitors from China at its LEED ® certified headquarters to discuss stormwater management. Local government officials from Prince William County, Virginia, asked WSSI to host a delegation of 19 government officials from the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department of Shandong Province, China. "They asked us to lead this tour because of all the stormwater practices implemented at our office as well as our experience and expertise in such matters," said Amy Connelly, operations coordinator. Connelly said the Chinese delegation left with a better understanding of how to maintain various types of stormwater management facilities and utilize stormwater harvesting, the practice of collecting and reusing rain water runoff. Mike Rolband, vice president of operations, WSSI, took visitors from China on a tour of the WSSI LEED ® certified office building, which includes a green roof and incorporates numerous stormwater management techniques, in addition to visiting nearby stormwater management project sites like this one in the Gainesville, Virginia, area.
