10 The Davey Bulletin | March/April 2017 FINDING YOUR ZEN HELPS WORK-LIFE BALANCE Whether you are climbing to the top of a mature maple or placing a hand-craft- ed piece of pottery in the kiln – when you are doing something you love – you feel a sense of peace. For 16 years, Jennifer Rose, client experience coordinator for Hartney Greymont, a Davey company, has found joy in pottery. When she's not hard at work at the Needham, Massachusetts, Residential/Commercial office, Rose is at Potter's Place, a local studio where she enjoys countless hours a week perfecting her craft. Although Rose was born with an artistic eye, it was her mother who inspired her passion for pottery. "Growing up, my mom was an avid pottery collector and took me to pottery shows across the country," Rose said. It wasn't until Rose's mom tragically passed from cancer when she officially took up the craft. "Pottery was an expression and a way to bring my mom back to me," Rose said. However, the art of pottery is difficult to master. "It took me an entire summer to get the clay centered on the wheel," she said. That is the first of four stages – from start to final fired masterpiece. "It teaches you an enormous amount of patience," Rose said. Such a virtue helps Rose beyond the studio. She brings this sense of calm to the office while dealing with clients on the phone and scheduling the arborists' work week. "It's a process you cannot rush," she said. "You learn to love the imperfections." Rose now shares her talents, little imperfections and all, with the community by selling her unique products at Potter's Place, art shows and through personal client orders. If you pay close enough attention, you may notice some of Rose's pottery in the Needham office. Here's a hint. Look closely at her coffee mug. Jennifer Rose, client experience coordinator for Hartney Greymont, creates beautiful pieces of pottery when she is not working. At right are three examples of her work. BOARD BULLETIN
