12 The Davey Bulletin | November/December 2016 Davey sales arborists bid on projects and meet with potential clients each day to create a partnership. Some are immediate. Other sales take time. With unwavering persistence, Dave Bruckner, sales arborist, worked for three years to land a coveted contract with the Gates Creek Homeowners' Association in Oswego, Illinois. Bruckner works in the Naperville, Illinois, The Care of Trees (TCOT), a Davey company, office. "It's a big association with a lot of sales potential," Bruckner said. Bruckner established a strong relationship with the homeowners' association over a span of two years while waiting for the organization to process the special assessments needed to contract with a business. "They stuck with us because they wanted our expertise," Bruckner said. It was Bruckner's tree care knowledge and attention to safety that eventually won him the bid over other vendors charging half the cost. For one week, Bruckner and his six crewmembers completed thousands of dollars' worth of tree care, including hazard tree removals, stump grindings and pruning large spruce trees. The homeowners' association was pleased with the final results, and it showcased TCOT's capabilities to residents through their homeowner newsletter – and the landscape's appearance. "They continue to recommend our services to homeowners and others in the Oswego community," Bruckner said. PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF FOR ILLINOIS OFFICE NOTES FIELD GOING THE EXTRA MILE The Care of Trees employees Erin Villiger and Manny Leal work together to remove and chip hazardous trees at the Gates Creek Homeowners' Association. At Davey, providing satisfactory work doesn't cut it. We strive for unmatched excellence in client service. Enter Marc Pierre, senior supervisor of Orlando, Florida, utility accounts, and his three-man crew. Pierre met College Park homeowner Linda Barton-Breda during a utility line clearance job assigned by their client of 25 years, Orlando Utilities Commission. "In this particular area we have seen our ups and downs with feedback due to the nature of the work," Pierre said. Barton-Breda asked the crew to come back when her husband was home and wanted a Davey supervisor on site. Pierre and his crew obliged. "We worked around her schedule to appease the homeowner," Pierre said. Before starting the job, Pierre and his crew took time to explain the purpose of line clearing. Pierre's crew trimmed her 22-year-old live oak tree to the proper clearance lateral while maintaining its natural appearance. Barton-Breda appreciated the work so much she blogged about her positive experience and even attached two hearts to the tree to show her appreciation. "I am filled with gratitude and my 22-year-old tree is grateful, as well," Barton-Breda wrote. Marc Pierre and his crew scored extra brownie points when they went out of their way to please a client, who wrote this blog post about their excellent service.
