"...A QUIET PLACE TO SIT AND REST"
Maier Tree & Lawn, a Davey company, donated
beautiful American elm wood to create a Giving
Tree bench for the A Chair Fair fundraiser for the
Boys and Girls Club in Rochester, Minnesota.
Thirty-two Davey employees recently received their Certified Treecare Safety
Professional certification from the Tree Care Industry Association.
The CTSP program is the only safety credentialing program in the tree care
industry. A CTSP acts as a safety "coach" and works to develop and foster
a culture of safety within their organization. The CTSP course work covers
leadership, hazard control and prevention, incident control and prevention,
and adult learning.
A mix of Davey and The Care of Trees employees participated in the CTSP
workshop held in Gainesville, Virginia, in January. The new CTSPs are: Nathan
Baker; David Balint; Ray Betz; Chris M. Busak; Mario Cipriano; Keith Cottle; Andy
Cunniff; Greg Elliffe; Tony Faoro; Keith Francies; Ron Hegner; Paul Herb; Ed Kollar;
Patrick Laidman; Brian Leatherman; Ed Legge; Jeremy D. Lewis; Chris Marshall;
Jason Parker; Brian S. Parris; Jason Reitter; Craig Ritter; Gary Schermerhorn;
Joe Shaw; Todd L. Sherbondy; Phil Snyder; Miles Stephens; Joel Twist;
Matthew Wentworth; Keith Wright; Scott Wyatt; Jacob Young.
Congratulations to all of Davey's new Certified Tree Safety Professionals!
NEW CERTIFIED TREE SAFETY PROFESSIONALS
For the second year, Jay Maier, district manager of the Maier Tree
office, and his team created a Giving Tree Bench to donate to the A
Chair Fair gala event in support of the Rochester Boys and Girls Club.
Maier and his crew salvaged American elm wood from a 2013 tree
removal project at the Boys and Girls club to create this unique piece,
designed by local artist Luke Mandel.
Maier worked with Rochester's Nigon Woodworks, Inc., to create
the finished product that would later raise $3,000 at the A Chair Fair
fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club in February 2016.
The bench, which incorporates a tree planter, features a quote from
Shel Silverstein's book "The Giving Tree" carved into the bench top.
It reads: "Once there was a tree, and she loved the little boy, and the
boy loved the tree. And the tree was happy."
