FULL OF IRISH SPIRIT
GOING GREEN FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY
Davey's Brianna and Chad Allen and their son Samuel march in front
of their McLaughlin Castle float at the Detroit St. Patrick's Day Parade.
In February, 15 Commercial Landscape Service (CLS) employees met in
Jacksonville, Florida, for a three-day Plant Health Care (PHC) Workshop.
PHC promotes healthy trees in the long-term by proactively predicting
and preventing problems.
While there, attendees learned everything from plant, weed, insect and
disease identification to turf, trees and shrub cultural practices. A.D. Ali,
technical advisor at the Davey Institute, Tom Freeman, CLS regional manager,
and Shawn Fitzgerald, Davey Institute technical advisor, taught the classes.
"Our goal was to provide our employees with the most current
recommendations for proper plant health care," Ali said. "Workshops and
meetings like this allow us to provide outstanding service to our CLS
clients. That is always our goal."
PLANT HEALTH CARE IN JACKSONVILLE

Two of Davey's own celebrated St. Patrick's day at the 58th Annual Detroit
St. Patrick's Day parade in March.
Chad Allen, foreman at the South Detroit R/C office, and his wife Brianna
didn't let a little rain ruin their family tradition. For six years, the Allen family
has built a float for the parade. This year they built a castle, which won
first-place float in this year's parade.
Between 30 and 50 of Allen's family members took part.
Decked out in tie-dye green Davey T-shirts and shamrock accessories,
Davey's West Chicago office took part in the annual St. Charles St.
Patrick's Day Parade.
"It's a really fun time," Steve Matravers, sales arborist, said. "Each year,
more members participate. Employees' spouses and children often join
us, so we get to meet and get to know them as well."
"It's a great way to get the Davey name out there," he said. "The
announcer shares details about us as we walk past, and it's broadcast
on TV, too."
CLS PHC workshop instructors and attendees
included: A.D. Ali, Tom Freeman, Derrick Whitaker,
Evan Davenport, Martin George, Lance Green,
