28 | March/April 2016 SPOTLIGHT IN THE Rachel Comte received the Newport, Kentucky, Mayor's Award for her continued dedication to creating a greener community. Mayor Jerry Peluso awarded Comte, project manager for Davey Resource Group NRC, the award at a Newport City Commission meeting. Comte's achievements include training 50 community members to complete a full tree inventory in a Newport neighborhood. Comte also volunteered to complete two planting days, which planted 225 new trees. Comte is especially proud of the second planting day, which added 125 trees to a low-income neighborhood. "The community absolutely supported us throughout these projects. Newport is a great example city," Comte says. Congratulations Rachel! Jennifer Gulick received the Award of Merit from The Society of Municipal Arborists (SMA) at their 2015 annual conference in Denver, Colorado. The lifetime achievement award was presented to Gulick, urban forestry consultant, Davey Resource Group, for her skilled leader- ship and meritorious accomplishments at the local, regional and national levels. "I have been in the industry for more than 30 years and SMA was the first organization I was associated with," Gulick says. "SMA is an amazing organization, and it's really shocking and exciting to receive a lifetime achievement award from them." Congratulations Jennifer! Joe Shaw achieved the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Board Certified Master Arborist ® credential–the highest level of certifi- cation offered by ISA. This credential recognizes ISA Certified Arborists who have reached the pinnacle of their profession. Shaw, Davey's Southeast recruiter and trainer, was happy to check this achievement off his "bucket list" after he worked his entire 14-year career for this honor. "One of the reasons I wanted to achieve this award was to show my kids you never have to stop learning," says Shaw. Congratulations Joe! The Care of Trees (TCOT), a Davey company, was awarded the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association (ILCA) Distinguished Service Award in 2015. TCOT is highly involved in the local community and has remained a reliable sponsor for ILCA events such as Summer Field Day and the annual golf outing. Additionally, The Care of Trees took part in launching ILCA's "Cash for Ash," an urban tree restoration initiative. Congratulations to all of our TCOT employees! Davey's marketing team recently earned recognition from the Tree Care Industry Association for excellence in communications.
