Cavalier legends Campy Russell (eighth from left) and Austin Carr (10th from left) helped plant the first tree of the day, a red maple, to kick
off an entire day of planting at Anton Grdina Elementary School along with Davey's Sandra Reid, vice president, corporate communications
and strategic planning administration, and the Cavalier Girls and Scream Team.
Nick Lemley worked with two different teams that planted about 20
trees at both Akron elementary schools involved with Trees for Threes,
including Betty Jane CLC and Windemere CLC. Lemley enjoyed the
educational aspect of the day. He taught his two planting groups how
to properly plant trees, what depth to dig the hole and how to break
up the soil properly. "It's important for Davey to be involved with
events like this because we know the benefits of the trees and what
trees do for a community," he says. "I've always liked community-
related projects and try to do as many as I can."
Nicholas Stutzman and his three-man crew planted about two
dozen trees, talked sports and even snapped a picture with Cavs'
legends Austin Carr and Campy Russell during Cleveland's Trees for
Threes event. "I think it was a great day. I had a really great time
with my team and learned a little bit about them," Stutzman says.
"The kids also learned a lot about trees—how they grow, how they
up-take water, how to mulch them, how to properly plant them and
about different tree species. It's important to be at events like this
because we are the leader of the industry. We help set the blue print
for anything to do with trees."
