Enjoy what you do. Differentiate
yourself. Make positive impressions.
Sandra Reid, vice president of corpo-
rate communications and strategic
planning administration, led a panel
discussion including Chris Bast, Anna
Davis and Scott Hyland, who listened
to and answered questions from
Kent State University MBA students
at The Davey Institute last October.
"This was a good opportunity to give
something back to Kent State and its
students," says Bast, treasurer. His
goal was to provide some insight into
what it is like in the work environment,
which is something he believes to be
helpful prior to joining the workforce.
"The four of us had passion in our

for Davey," Bast explains, adding the
students were engaged and attentive.
Anna Davis, manager of human
resources administration and graduate
of Kent State's MBA program, enjoys
interacting with people, and the
panel discussion provided a great
opportunity for her to do so.
"I thought the group seemed bright
and engaging," she says.
A WORD ON FULFILLING CAREERS
That is exactly the philosophy Davey's
Akron R/C crew had in mind when its
managers invited 48 college students
to visit the office on their way to
Pittsburgh for the Tree Care Industry
Association Foundation's Student
Career Days, the student component
of TCI EXPO.
"The hope is to show students what
they might be exposed to on a daily
basis on the job," says Gordon Mat-
thews, district manager.
"Hopefully we encouraged them
to take it one step further to pursue
a career in our industry."
"The visit gives students less of a
myopic look at the business and also
a broader scale of what potentially is
out there for them," adds Chet Shal-
lenberger, assistant district manager.
"They need to know how it all works."
The visit included a brief tour of
Davey's corporate complex in Kent.
Chet Shallenberger explains the
importance of safety at Davey

Davey's Akron R/C office.
