22 | May/June 2014 A lot of love greeted Kim Simms on an otherwise ordinary afternoon in the office. Simms, shop secretary for Davey's North- west Chicago office, has listened to K-LOVE Chicago, 94.3 FM, for more than three years. Ever since her son introduced her to the nationwide Christian music radio station, she listens to it all the time—in the car and at work. But on that particular afternoon, Simms wasn't expecting to hear much more from K-LOVE than the usual uplifting tunes they broadcast. So, when K-LOVE announcers arrived at her desk bearing balloons, prizes and other gifts, Simms couldn't help but smile. "They surprised me with a great package for listening to their radio station: a balloon bouquet, a K-LOVE bag and T-shirt, some books, three CDs and two tickets to a Chicago Wolves hockey game," Simms recalls. "It was a nice surprise … made my day!" Simms had entered a K-LOVE contest via email to win the prizes. Simms says the contest gave her an opportunity to compliment K-LOVE for what it does for its listeners. "I love listening to K-LOVE at work," she says. "It gives me such a positive outlook on life and lifts my day." Feeling the K-LOVE K-LOVE Chicago staff greets Davey's Kim Simms (right) at work. Davey's Kim Simms (right) poses with the Chicago Wolves mascot, her husband and 18-month-old grandson during a hockey game. Simms recalls her grandson was not too fond of the Wolves' mascot. A Young Artist's Inspiration Trees can inspire us in so many ways, but who knew such a tiny artist could find inspiration from the work performed on them? Foreman Andy Wright and his North Philadelphia R/C crew, including Landscape Foreman Mike Martin and Tree Trimmer Trainee Derek Yerger, were cleaning up after chipping brush on the property of clients Karen and Bill Schulze when their 4-year-old granddaughter approached the crew with a drawing of the tree care work they had completed that day. District Manager Mark Mercaldo was delighted to see the drawing upon the crew's return to the office that day. He didn't hesitate to have it passed along to the MyDavey Bulletin, and we're very glad he did!
