T his year, a national champion hails from Davey's Nashville R/C office. Trimmer Aquilino Amador, winner of the 2014 Tennessee State Tree Climbing Championship, also obtained the Southern Chapter ISA title at the Southern Chapter ISA Tree Climbing Championship in February. His next challenge? Facing international tree climb- ing competitors in Milwaukee, Wis., this August. But Amador wasn't the only Davey employee to represent the company in tree climbing events this year. Fellow crewmember and fore- man, Rob Kraker, earned second place at the Tennessee State Tree Climbing Championship. Nashville R/C's James Jones, Stephen McLaren and Joseph Williams also competed at the Tennessee event, where Recruiter/Trainer Joe Shaw was head judge for the footlock event and helped score the Master's Challenge. Trimmer Nicholas St. Sauveur, from Wolf Tree, as well as Memphis R/C's Matt Baker and Nathan Baker, helped set up the event. Some employees also participated during the Southern Chapter ISA Tree Climbing Championship in several capacities. Shaw was head judge for a footlock event, as well as head technician for the aerial rescue event. St. Sauveur competed in all the events. "Being involved at climbing events is an opportunity to learn with other people in the industry, build camaraderie and gain networking opportunities," says Shaw, who has volunteered Reaching for National Fame at climbing events in Tennessee in the past few years. And although inclement weather slightly interrupted the schedule of the Southern Chapter ISA Tree Climbing Championship, the event was worthwhile to the individuals involved. The MyDavey Bulletin wishes Amador good luck when he moves on to compete at the ISA International Tree Climbing Championship Aug. 2 – 3. Climb on!
