18 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | July/August 2026 LEADERSHIP Climbing competitions are back this summer, and Davey climbers are ready for action. Over a dozen have already competed strongly at competitions across the country, with several climbers qualifying for a Master's Challenge and three even taking home the fi rst-place trophy. CLIMBING COMPETITION ROUNDUP In her fi rst competition ever, Tess Eastman (pictured), trimmer, Needham offi ce, Residential/Commercial (R/C) services, placed third overall in the women's division of the New England chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture's (ISA) Tree Climbing Competition, fi nishing second in belayed speed climb, third in aerial rescue, third in throwline and second in work climb. She also qualifi ed for the Master's Challenge in the women's division. Alyssa Cleland, groundperson, Cape Cod offi ce, placed third in ascent event and second in throwline; Blake Duval, arborist skills trainer, placed third in aerial rescue; and Cory Rebello, foreman, Southern Vermont offi ce, won the Spirit of the Competition award. Caleb Fritz, plant health care technician, Needham offi ce, and Mike Tilton, foreman, Needham offi ce, also competed. NEW ENGLAND Tyler Eide (left to right), trimmer, South Fort Collins offi ce; Jake Sickmond, tree care coordinator, North Fort Collins offi ce; Andy Freise, manager, arborist skills training; and Abby Alm, foreman, North Fort Collins offi ce, competed in the Rocky Mountain chapter of the ISA's Tree Climbing Competition. Alm placed second in the women's division, and she also placed third in aerial rescue, belayed speed climb, throwline and work climb and second in ascent. Greg Shephard, foreman, East Denver offi ce, also won the Spirit of the Competition award. ROCKY MOUNTAIN WESTERN CHAPTER Kate Miller, foreman, Sacramento offi ce, (left) placed fi rst in the Master's Challenge women's division at the Western Chapter ISA's Tree Climbing Competition.
