When the captain of their local fi re station expressed interest in adding fruit trees to the station grounds, specifi cally peach trees that his team could use for cooking and canning, Davey Resource Group (DRG) made it happen. After evaluating the Akron Fire Department Station 4 site in Akron, Ohio, DRG's Environmental Consulting group out of Northern Ohio recom- mended planting two peach trees in the northwest corner of the station's parking lot and secured two Elberta peach trees. This planting project was a collaborative effort alongside Keep Akron Beautiful, a local com- munity organization, and the station's fi refi ghters. "The peach trees will provide fresh fruit for the station, enhance the landscape and serve as a small but lasting symbol of support for the EVERYTHING'S JUST PEACHY IN AKRON THANKS TO DRG fi refi ghters who serve Akron," Jim Jenkins, principal consultant, Environmental Consulting, DRG, said. Leadership Tips with Julio Reyes How would you describe your leadership style? It's about sharing my knowledge with the ones I lead. I understand that for a team to be successful, it needs to be a collective effort. Any project that operates with a group of people that can get together, share and accept ideas and implement them will be successful. It's a great feeling when those you lead appreciate this approach and when you're able to make a difference making those around you better. Every day, you also learn from the knowledge of the ones around you. What is a leadership tip you've learned from someone at Davey? Be patient. This is a quality of a leader that I realized is key to the success of the operation. You need to work on your own patience skills when you are a leader by acting calmly when discussing situations, asking for answers, explaining your vision and conducting yourself in a correct manner. What is a leadership tip you've learned on your own? I have to delegate. There's no one better than yourself doing the job, and it's very diffi cult to trust someone else to do a job. Identifying the personnel on your team and their skills where you can rely on to have the job successfully completed is something that takes time to develop, but it's necessary to give oppor- tunities to others to grow and make your job easier. We need to learn that we can't do everything even if we want to. It's how you share your knowledge. Who is a Davey leader you look up to and why? The leader I look up to is Brent Repenning. I joined Davey Resource Group in 2008 and shortly after, I had the opportunity to be with Brent working in the fi eld. I learned about the vision and path the company was going on at the time and was immediately engaged into the opportunity to make something special. It's almost 18 years, and I continue working for Davey, taking over any opportunity that has been presented to me because I believed in the vision I learned from him. His dedication is an example to follow. What is your favorite hobby? My favorite hobby is listening to music. I'm from the 1980s generation; the decade of music innovation.
