For 36 years, LandStudies, a Davey company, has been involved in planning, design, construction, maintenance and the science behind fl oodplain restoration, which addresses impairments in fl oodplains and the wetlands surrounding them. The work re-establishes a functional ecosystem that had historically existed on site. The LandStudies team has brought that expertise, along with watershed planning, stormwater management and OIL CREEK WATERSHED RESTORATION In York County, Pennsylvania, Ben Uhler oversaw the restoration of the Oil Creek Floodplain that restored 3,800 linear feet of stream channel, created 12 acres of wetlands, protected the trail and provided ecological and aesthetic benefi ts to the entire community. The project, which was completed in October 2025, also improved fl ood storage and retention of sediment and nutrients and won the 2026 Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence. "The site looks fabulous," Uhler, project manager, LandStudies, said. He has worked at LandStudies for 23 years. "The project converted an unstable, erosive condition to a sustainable, low-energy condition that retains fl ood fl ows, sediment, and nutrients, rather than fl ushing them from the site and polluting the downstream watershed." BLUE-GREEN CONNECTOR PROJECT Cory Rathman is currently overseeing the fl oodplain restoration component of the Little Conestoga Creek Blue-Green Connector, a community greenway project that incorporates six fl oodplain restorations, learning spaces and a paved trail through parts of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The fl oodplain restorations will total over 7,000 linear feet, cover 25 acres and reduce 4 million pounds of sediment pollution yearly – and it's the largest fl oodplain restoration in Lancaster County history. The project will be completed in 2029. "This is a transformative fl oodplain restoration and trail initiative that will re- defi ne how Lancaster County connects with nature, education, recreation and community life," Rathman said. "It will turn neighborhoods, parks, healthcare campuses, educational institutions, natural spaces and community spaces into one environmental corridor." BALLSTOWN ROAD FLOODPLAIN RESTORATION In April 2026, Emily West completed restoration work on Lititz Run, a stream off the Conestoga River in Lancaster County, which began to help the local township address pollutant reduction because of the site's channel and fl ood- plain impairments. With over 1,270 linear feet of restored channel and 3 acres of restored wetland, this restoration project is estimated to help reduce sediment by over 400,000 pounds per year. Native wetland plugs were also added to further native wetland vegetation, and outdoor classrooms have already started to utilize the space. "We really implemented a great system," West, project manager, LandStudies, said. She has worked at LandStudies for 11 years. "Having joined Davey, there's now more resources and more areas of expertise available to us to complete projects like this. Having the opportunity for greater connection and collaboration has been very benefi cial." ecological landscape solutions, to Davey since 2025, when Wetland Studies and Solutions Inc. In celebration of the company's fi rst year with Davey, the Bulletin talked with three LandStudies project managers about projects they have managed and the positive impact they have been able to make with this work in their communities.
