16 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | July/August 2026 REHABILITATING MAINE PARK 1 TREE AT A TIME The Portland, Maine, Residential/Commercial (R/C) services team happily attended a volunteer day at Maine Wildlife Park following a two-alarm fi re that destroyed its maintenance and workshop building, along with most of the tools and equipment used in daily park maintenance operations. The park is home to more than 30 species of animals that can no longer survive in the wild due to a variety of circumstances. The crew assisted the park by addressing hazardous trees, removing deadwood and raising low- hanging limbs, which helped make walking paths and seating areas safer. "Supporting the community while preserving and protecting the park's natural resources refl ects the core values of Davey Tree," Jacob Roy, consulting arborist, Portland, Maine, offi ce, said. "We were also able to remove emerald ash borer–infested trees located above animal enclosures and provided preservation care for a large historic white oak that has stood in the park since its opening in 1932. In addition, we removed several trees identifi ed as unsafe by the Forest Service, allowing the park to reopen nature trails and outdoor education classrooms that had been closed for several years." Employees from Mickman Brothers, Inc., a Davey company, Commercial Landscape Services (CLS), spent a morning picking up trash along Andover Boulevard in Minnesota for participation in an annual Adopt a Highway program. "This was an important event to keep our community clean and strengthen the bond between colleagues."
