Tree care coordinators from seven states gathered for a workshop at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, to develop leadership skills, network with each other, and learn new ways to approach tree care. The program consisted of classroom and hands-on training exercises that encouraged communication and teamwork. "The role of a tree care coordinator varies based on the needs of an individual office, so it was really nice to hear different management strategies and perspectives," William Herbst, tree care coordinator, Southeast Denver office, said. "Their perspectives really opened your eyes to new ideas on what you can accomplish within the position." "I liked everything about the training, and would fully recommend it to other Davey employees," Milson Diaz, work planner, Eastern Utility services, said. "It helps you to explain the 'why' behind your daily work to your clients and fellow crew members." An aerial rescue training for the North Detroit office showed attendees the basics of rescue efforts including how to attach a non-responsive climber, address immediate possible injuries, and get someone safely back on the ground. "I learned a lot about rescuing someone in a controlled environment with hands-on instructions," Jared Weston, trimmer, North Detroit office, said. "It's much easier for me to learn by doing, and what we learned was helpful to all of us because the information we were taught has the potential to save a life." The 2025 D.I.G.M. class in front of the Davey Institute in Kent, Ohio, where they connected with each other, and learned more about grounds management.
