RETIREE ENJOYS RELAXED LIFESTYLE IN RETIREMENT
Bruce Davenport left a job inspecting utility poles at a
wood preservation company to start his Davey career in
1996 as a pole inspection foreman, PG&E account, Davey
Tree Surgery Company. He'd heard through the grapevine
that Davey had great people and good benefits.
In 1997, Davenport relocated from his home state of Oregon
to California's Bay Area. That same year, he was promoted
to area supervisor, PG&E Pole Treatment account. Alongside
his wife, Carolyn, and their two sons, Marc and Robbie,
he bought a house in the Redwoods area of Cazadero,
California. While there, he managed utility crews throughout
California, Washington, and Oregon, until he retired in 2020
with 24 years of service.
Throughout his career, Davenport traveled and formed close
bonds with fellow employees and clients. Some of his most
rewarding and proud career moments came when he got
to assist in cleanup efforts following major disasters.
"I was always proud that clients would choose to call us in
times of need," Davenport said. "It's rewarding to know they
trusted and respected our people and our work."
He credits Terry Bier, retired regional vice president, Surgery
Company, with mentoring and guiding him during this time
and throughout his career.
"We were a team, and I learned a lot from Terry," Davenport

said. "We treated each other with mutual respect, and
even though he was my superior, it always felt like we were
working together."
Davenport, a proud employee-owner, was able to prepare
in advance for retirement through the Davey Employee
Stock Purchase Plan. He sold some of his stock back to
buy a new GMC 2500 pickup truck.
At the start of retirement, Davenport and his wife moved
back to Oregon. He likes to work on projects in his home
workshop and plan for their travels, including their recent
seven-week road trip to Yukon, Canada and Alaska in their
fifth wheel RV.
"I'm loving retirement, but I do miss the camaraderie I
had with Davey," Davenport said. "There was always a
strong family attitude within Davey."

RETIREES!
ADVICE FROM BRUCE DAVENPORT:
1. For current Davey employees: Start saving as
soon as possible and participate in the Employee
Stock Purchase Plan. It remains my favorite
investment to this day.
2. For fellow retirees: Find hobbies and things to
do that allow you to have fun!

there to visit Marc and Lorena, who live in the country's southwest jungle region.
During their trip, they got to experience the local beaches, jungles, and wildlife
including three-toed sloths, lizards, monkeys, and macaws.
