16 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | March /April 2025 Around 240 employees attended various training sessions, both new and established, to better their tree, lawn, and plant care, as well as their safety skills. A training for Davey Resource Group (DRG), Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited employees was held in Hamilton, Ontario, and focused on learning how to interpret construction plans, navigate different tree regulations, interact and create professional relations with clients, and how to follow protocols and best practices for tree preservation. "It was good for all of us to have this training to make sure we're up to date on our daily processes and other specific tasks," Kaitlyn Simpson, consulting arborist, DRG, Davey Canada, said. "I loved getting to know my colleagues better, and I'm looking forward to the next training." Two Factors and Forces training sessions took place on the East Coast, with one in New Haven, Connecticut, and DAVEY SPRINGS INTO TRAINING the other in Lincoln, Massachusetts. Attendees from the New England region Residential/Commercial (R/C) offices were able to learn more about the five factors and five forces that should be considered when performing risk assessments on trees and creating a working plan. "I found it to be a very informative lecture about a lot of things that I wouldn't necessarily have thought of, like how decay can affect a tree's stability," Katie Lewis, sales arborist, Woodbridge Estate Care, Tree & Landscaping, a Davey company office, said. "You really got to see how different perspectives, like sales and safety, work together to provide effective tree care." An additional two Factors and Forces trainings were adapted into one-day sessions for DRG employees to learn more about risk assessment concepts when it comes to determining if a tree requires intervention to keep both employees and utility infrastructure safe. The sessions were held in San Clemente and San Diego, California. "I learned a lot about trees and how they grow and deal with stress," Lyanne Yeh, UVM technician, Southern California Edison account, DRG, said. "I also got to hear other arborists talk and answer questions for me. They were knowledgeable, generous, and always uplifted my ideas." A Plant Health Care Foundations, Diagnostics, and Management Planning workshop took place over two days in Scotts Valley, California for R/C services offices from the LEADERSHIP Above: Attendees, instructors, and support staff from DRG, Davey Canada, who attended the internal training included consulting arborists Aaron Geurts, Mia Leslie, Kyle Mackenzie, Adam Mohamed, Pawan Paudyal, Kaitlyn Simpson, Karam Singh, Alex Weegen and Connor Wixson; along with Jordan Barker, assistant district manager; Joseph Steinfeld, manager, urban forestry; and Matthew Tremblay, developer/analyst. Kevin Styles, operations manager, Eastern Utility services, addresses attendees of the annual rail division training on standard operating procedures for working in a railroad environment, and reviews Davey's Safety and Training Manual.
