17 March /April 2025 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Western operations region. Attendees focused on learning about plant health issues, diagnosing them, and how to approach treating them. "It was the first training I got to complete with Davey, so it was all very new and exciting," Candy Martinez, PHC technician, San Diego office, said. "I got to learn about areas that I wasn't as familiar with, such as pathology and entomology. I loved learning new information, especially from people who are as passionate as our instructors were." Davey Rail members came together for their annual two-day training held by the Rail herbicide team in Muncie, Indiana, in conjunction with the National Railroad Contractors Association conference. The training reinforced Davey's safety practices and refreshed attendees on regulations and how to be operationally efficient when it comes to working with or near railroads. "This is my third year attending the training, and I really liked it a lot," said Kacey Kreger, spray technician, Canadian National Railway account, Eastern Utility services. "Since we do less work in the winter, it gives us a great refresh on what we need to do for the upcoming season, and what we should expect." The inaugural Warm-Season Turf Grass Summit took place in Ave Maria, Florida, to go over best practices and lawn care programs for warm-season specific grasses. Employees from Commercial Landscape Services and R/C offices joined together for the three-day training. "I've only been located in Charleston for four years, so I didn't have as much previous experience with warm-season grasses," said Bryan Layne, project manager, Charleston, South Carolina office, R/C services. "The summit was thorough, and I was able to get the information I was hoping to get to better serve our clients and their lawns." Below: Warm-Season Turfgrass Summit instructors and attendees from 10 CLS and R/C services locations are pictured in Ave Maria, Florida, where they attended classroom and field learning sessions on topics such as warm-season turf types, soil science, calibration systems, fertility programs, insect and weed identification, and diagnosing and managing turfgrass. Immanuel Tamburro, UVM technician, SDG&E account, DRG, holds a mind map he created to help brainstorm the meaning of tree decay at the one-day, Factors and Forces training in San Diego, California. Roz Remsen, technical advisor, Davey Institute hands out case studies for a group exercise. The studies prompted PHC workshop attendees to take plant images and test results to come up with a mock diagnosis and treatment plan.
