20 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | January/February 2025 Around 160 Davey employees participated in training sessions and skill modules to further their skills through learning about leadership, technique, and collaboration over the past few months. The Factors and Forces training courses in Ontario, Canada, introduced the five factors and five forces behind a tree's structural integrity and health to ensure safe working conditions. Attendees from Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited's Ontario-area Residential offices learned how to assess trees and determine the safest course of action for treatment. "It was nice to be hands-on in the training, and the gloves they give you with the five factors and forces listed for each finger made it easy to remember everything," said Jamie DAVEY PUTS TRAINING AND SAFETY FIRST Nielsen, climber, Toronto Northeast Residential office. "I tell my coworkers about what I learned and wear the gloves while I'm working." Three arborist skills chainsaw and felling modules took place where attendees from Residential/Commercial (R/C) services learned techniques on proper chainsaw handling and tree felling in both a classroom and hands-on settings. The modules took place in Riverwoods, Illinois, at Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter; Naperville, Illinois, at Camp Greene Wood; and New Hartford, Connecticut, at Camp Sequassen. LEADERSHIP Above: Attendees at the arborist skills rigging module in Attica, Michigan, practice negative rigging with a tagline to safely pull a piece of wood over to be rigged to the ground. The pair are learning to climb on spikes, and how to position themselves while removing trees. Trimmers David Aquino and Sebastian Sanchez, Stamford office; Michael Alfano, foreman, Elmsford office; Caleb Fritz, tree care coordinator, Needham, Hartney Greymont, a Davey com- pany office; Walter Mendez-Yoc, climbing arborist, Boston North Shore, Hartney Greymont office, are pictured with Jose "Pepe" Ramirez, arborist skills trainer, health and safety department, at the arborist chainsaw skills module in New Hartford, Connecticut, discussing safe chainsaw handling techniques when performing tree felling.
