"The trainings allow for you to meet new people and see
new perspectives," Christiane Cerillo, foreman, Hamden
office, said. "It's like being in an accelerated learning
environment where we get to learn new skills and
techniques to use in our everyday work."
Two separate arborist skills rigging modules took place in
Attica, Michigan, where attendees learned safe and effective
rigging techniques to control tree limbs and wood.
Two Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) training
courses took place, one in Pennsylvania and one in Virginia,
with attendees from the Mid-Atlantic region's R/C services
offices, alongside service line leaders and support staff.
Participants explored strategies for promoting positive
outcomes by creating and maintaining trust, and by
embracing continuous learning.
"We talked a lot about celebrating what we learn each day
instead of only talking about negative occurrences," Stephen
Howard, sales arborist, North Virginia East office, said.
"Nobody is perfect, so we must create a system where
we can fail safely."
Planting the SEED training attendees from Eastern Utility
services and the health and safety department learned
about the craft of leadership, how to be a courageous
leader, and how to establish a pipeline for empowering
future Davey leaders.
"The training helped us understand the different roles of
leadership and how to break out of your comfort zone,"
Ronnie Adams, supervisor, rail division, Eastern Utility services,
said. "We got to try a lot of new techniques on leadership,
learn how to better interact and speak with each other."
