Around 160 Davey employees participated in training
sessions and skill modules to further their skills through
learning about leadership, technique, and collaboration
over the past few months.
The Factors and Forces training courses in Ontario, Canada,
introduced the five factors and five forces behind a tree's
structural integrity and health to ensure safe working
conditions. Attendees from Davey Tree Expert Co. of
Canada, Limited's Ontario-area Residential offices learned
how to assess trees and determine the safest course of
action for treatment.
"It was nice to be hands-on in the training, and the gloves
they give you with the five factors and forces listed for each
finger made it easy to remember everything," said Jamie

Nielsen, climber, Toronto Northeast Residential office. "I tell
my coworkers about what I learned and wear the gloves
while I'm working."
Three arborist skills chainsaw and felling modules took place
where attendees from Residential/Commercial (R/C) services
learned techniques on proper chainsaw handling and tree
felling in both a classroom and hands-on settings. The
modules took place in Riverwoods, Illinois, at Orphans of the
Storm Animal Shelter; Naperville, Illinois, at Camp Greene
Wood; and New Hartford, Connecticut, at Camp Sequassen.
