They learned more about Davey as a company, as well as participated in hands-on climbing and chainsaw exercises. D.I.H.S. AND INTERN DAY Institute in Kent, Ohio. Topics included landscape care, team building exercises, as well as information on employee- ownership and Davey's benefi t packages. "I was able to learn and grow under the leadership of each of the people who shared their knowledge with us and motivated us to give our best every day," said Maria Garcia Hidalgo, landscape crew leader, Alexandria territory. There were three Factors and Forces trainings held in the Midwest, as well as one that was conducted entirely in Spanish in Richmond, Virginia. Employees from Eastern Utility services, Davey Resource Group, and R/C services learned about the "factors and forces" behind the structural integrity of trees to determine if a tree is safe to work on and climb. "I felt like the training taught me how I can use these skills in my everyday job to better complete my job safely for myself and the trees I work on," said Austin Armagost, foreman, FirstEnergy account. A PHC intermediate workshop was held in Western Springs, Illinois, and covered proper pesticide and equipment safety and usage. Attendees developed safer and more effi cient, and effective PHC skills. "I think the entire experience was a great opportunity for continuous learning," Benton Lindquist, PHC technician, Quad Cities offi ce, said. "I got to ask questions and rein- forced the skills I use in the fi eld." A Women's+ event was held at the Davey Institute, and an Underrepresented Genders workshop took place in Chicago, Illinois. Both events provided attendees with the opportunity to connect with peers, participate in team building exercises and panels, and learn about different areas of fi eld work. "My favorite part is seeing the excitement in people's eyes when they try something new," Natascha Batchelor, sales arborist, Hartney Greymont - Cape Cod offi ce, said. Jose Pascual Garcia, arborist skills trainer, health and safety department, is pictured teaching about unseen factors that can contribute to a tree's health at the Factors and Forces training held in Detroit, Michigan at the DTE Energy account's training facility. Sophie Bowes, trimmer, Annapolis offi ce, is pictured at the Women's+ workshop during a chainsaw exercise making a wooden chair. The participants were tasked with making the chair to practice the importance of body positioning, saw handling, and how to maintain equilibrium when using a chainsaw.
