THE DAVEY BULLETIN
Jaclyn Cullen, groundperson, Strathroy Residential offi ce,
developed her passion for trees while taking a forest ecology
course at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario.
Wanting to turn her passion into her career, she decided
to take an ISA-sponsored course entitled the "Arborist
Groundwork Training Program" from The Career Foundation
in Toronto, Ontario.
"They taught us about different arborist skills, and it was
from this course that I knew I wanted to be a consulting
arborist," Cullen said. "After working with another company,
I learned that Davey had a good reputation in the area, and
I decided I wanted to work for them."
Cullen became an employee-owner soon after becoming
eligible to do so, and credits her decision to Tim Holley,
district manager, London Residential offi ce, and Ronald
Wammes, foreman, City of London account, Canadian Utility.
"Ron is one of my favorite people to work with and has
been investing in the stock program for a while, and Tim
has been a great mentor for me," Cullen said. "The two
of them encouraged me to start buying Davey stocks and
shared what the benefi ts are of doing so."
Cullen likes to continue spreading the word on the
importance of employee-ownership and the benefi ts of
buying stock to newer members of the Davey family.
"The people who do invest in the stock program tend to
be the employees that invest the most in their careers at
Davey," Cullen said. "They take more pride in their work,
hold themselves to higher standards, and like to impart
their knowledge to the next Davey generation."
For arborists specifi cally, Cullen said that employee-
ownership allows them to invest in their work on another
level and be a part of a company that shares their values.
"I plan on having a long career with Davey," Cullen said.
"I've learned a lot at this company, and I know being an
employee-owner means there are even more opportunities
for me to explore. I get to not only invest in the company
I work for, but also in my personal career efforts."
Cullen joined Davey in 2019 as a groundperson,
London Residential offi ce, Davey Canada. She currently
works as a groundperson for the Strathroy Residential
offi ce. In the warmer months, she works as a consulting
arborist, Davey Resource Group, in the Greater Toronto
Area. Cullen holds an International Society of
Arboriculture (ISA) Tree Risk Assessment Qualifi cation,
is an ISA Certifi ed Arborist
®
, and has a master's degree
in environmental science from University of Guelph in
Guelph, Ontario.
