14 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | September/October 2023 STEWARDSHIP Eighty-five fifth grade Wilson Elementary School students visited Mickman Brothers, a Davey company, in Ham Lake, Minnesota for their Mother's Day week event for a tour, horticultural training and to learn more about jobs in the green industry. John Mickman, division manager, Mickman Brothers, a Davey company, said the children are always in awe of the greenhouse during their annual visit. "Every single year, the one question that is always asked is how old they need to be to work here," Mickman said. "Their eyes sparkle when I tell them there are many jobs for them when they get into high school. They are future landscapers indeed." STUDENTS VISIT MICKMAN BROTHERS Jason Pauley, arborist skills trainer, Davey Institute, and Chesapeake office employees Matthew Krenkel, trimmer, and Joshua Kruger, foreman, recently voluntarily aided the Owl Moon Raptor Center in rescuing a young, red-shouldered hawk after it was pushed from the nest by its siblings. They used a lift bucket from their truck to place the hawk in a makeshift laundry basket nest created by Owl Moon, placed just below the original nest to protect it from being pushed out again. "It's wonderful when we're able to provide a service to the community and wildlife," Pauley said. "Getting the Davey name out there and showing we're willing to help in these situations is also always worthwhile."
