PGA TOUR STAYS ON TRACK
A severe thunderstorm struck the grounds of the
Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour's Rocket
Mortgage Classic held at the Detroit Golf Club the night
before warmups and practice rounds were set to begin.
"Ten large trees came down on the course and were
scattered throughout the playing areas. One was directly in
front of the clubhouse and was blocking the main driveway.
Some were on tee boxes," said Bob Paris, district manager,
South Detroit office.
Title sponsor Rocket Mortgage reached out to Zach La
Combe, assistant district manager, South Detroit office,
to ask if Davey could assist with the cleanup. Paris jumped
in and coordinated an immediate response from the
Detroit-area offices. Two employees from the South Detroit
office, three employees from the North Detroit office, and
six employees from the Northeast Detroit office all joined in
to help with the storm debris cleanup.
The Detroit Golf Club course was cleaned up in a day,
thanks to the quick response efforts of Davey employees
working alongside others who had pulled together from
the community to keep the PGA Tour on track.
The South Detroit office's Juan Gutierrez-Villa
and Derrick Jackson were some of the many
Davey employees who worked cleaning up
the Detroit Golf Club's course post-storm.
Nick Franklin, trimmer, Hans Hering-Petelle,
foreman, and Montel Lewis, landscaper, assisted
from the North Detroit office. The Northeast
Detroit office was able to supply trimmers
Jake Atikian, Josh Gildenpfennig, Kolton Rennie
and Nick Renze; and foremen Jake Wilkins and
Jeremy Wilkins to help with the cleanup efforts.

Detroit office's

As a climber and crew leader, I make sure
everyone understands the unique hazards
of every job. My teammates and I look out for
one another. We know each other's skill level
and will make sure no one is put into a situation
they are not comfortable with. It is extremely
important to me that everyone is comfortable
with their task and the jobs go as smoothly
as possible.
